World Fund Day: Discover the world of investment funds

World Fund Day is a great opportunity to learn more about funds. If you have had little or no experience with securities and investment funds so far, this day is a wonderful occasion to familiarise yourself with this form of investment.

World Fund Day

Funds are popular – not just on World Fund Day

In 2012, the German Investment and Asset Management Association (BVI) declared 19 April as World Fund Day for the first time. Since then, a great deal has happened in the entire fund industry.

Funds – and especially fund savings – are becoming increasingly popular. In Austria, around 230 billion euro are currently invested in funds (as of December 2024, source: OENB).

A fund is a convenient way to take advantage of a securities investment. You decide on the mix of asset classes (such as equities and bonds) and the income and risk components that are suitable – and our fund managers take care of the implementation.

Fund savings: prepare for the future with EUR 3 per month

Regular investing with funds is possible from as little as 3 euro per month in the form of a fund savings plan. This form of investing is particularly suitable for many young people – but of course also for older individuals – as a way to invest in the capital markets with relatively little money. However, one must also be aware of the risks, which can include losses.

Professionals take care of your money

To invest money in equities, bonds, or commodities with investment funds, you need the relevant experience. It's a good thing there are professionals for this. Fund managers with the necessary expertise monitor and analyze the capital markets and examine industries, countries, and companies.

What else you should know

If you are not yet fully familiar with the topic of investments and funds, we have more information for you here:

Fund investments are special assets

The securities in a fund are owned by the investors. The fund company only manages the fund in trust. This means that the investment assets are separate from the capital of the fund company and are held in safekeeping at a bank as the depositary. Should the fund company or depositary encounter financial difficulties, this would not affect the fund assets. In addition, strict legal requirements apply to investment funds and fund providers.

Why is World Fund Day on 19 April?

Adriaan van Ketwich’s birthday was on 19 April 1744. He was a Dutch entrepreneur and is considered to be the father of the investment fund. In 1774, he launched the first collective investment scheme by the name of “Eendragt Maakt Magt”, or “unity creates strength”. This is why the World Fund Day is celebrated every year on 19 April.
